Another Hokie pilot sent me this research

Further evidence of pilot problems with these two airlines that had crashes with the new 737 MAX.

Both Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air had crashes of relatively new 737-800s in 2010 and 2013.

"The inquiry attributed the crash to a combination of “failure in basic piloting skills” by the captain, combined with inadequate crew resource management from the first officer, and queried the decision to pair the two."

I'm not saying the 737 Max may not have problems, but so far we can't rule out pilot error either.
