Some of that is IMHO,


attention span and FOMO.

Attending a college football game is almost always at least a full day event. Tailgating, 4 hour game, travel, etc.

Basketball you might catch a two hour game after work, or a midday Saturday game and then still go out afterward.

Big part of reason support of VT bball is tough - smaller population within after work driving distance and bball isn't an all day thing.
