Not sure I would say college football is exactly trending down


I would probably go with "becoming stagnant" as long as the same two teams continue to play for the National Championship. I blame ESPN for at least one side of the equation. They keep pushing Alabama as the greatest team in the history of football, which makes more kids want to play there...

No idea about the correct solution...force all Div 1A schools to support a minimum number of non-revenue sports? I've read that Clemson has closed several non-revenue sports so they could put more money into football. I'm sure the majority of SEC schools field fewer sports than the average ACC school too.

Just "spit-balling"...
