This topic fascinates me. I know enough about the topic to appreciate that
My knowledge barely scratches the surface. With that disclaimer in mind, here are some thoughts listed in a pure stream of consciousness format.
Most businesses start with one founder. That person can successfully manage the business in its infancy, but as the business grows it will need an idea person, an ops person, and a sales person. Hard for the founder to effectively wear all three hats.
Founders usually have too much pride of ownership and too much need for control to bring in other key decision makers, resulting in a stagnant and eventually failing business. The Chobani founder, to his credit, eventually conceded that his business became too big for him to effectively manage. Most founders will never make that concession.
Bezos is the exception to the rule. IMO, he is the most talented CEO who has ever lived.
Borrowing an Amazon idea, many stagnant and failing businesses emphasize the process over the result. This mindset is fatal. The process can always be improved and “following the process” is never an excuse for a bad result.
