You need to understand the goals of a particular product development.


Sometimes the right approach is to have a detailed product development lifecycle, where you can take the time to identify and address 95-100% of the problems the product is intended to address. But sometimes the most important thing is to be first to the market so that you can beat a competitor. In this case, you may have to shortcut certain steps in the product development so that you can be first to market.
