One thing I've noticed over my career that corporations that rode a wave of

some kind to their success find themselve hurting from the mentalities they were able to get away with during the fat and happy times. They think that it worked for them in the past because it was sound way to do things not because they had favorable winds. In the IT world I've seen long term employees that built crappy systems during the happy times move up the corporate ladder and leaving behind a mess for better programmers to fix. Furthermore they and upper management hamstring the newer programmers with the failure to understand that what they built was crap.

Anybody else have this experience?
