FWIW I see them on secondary roads too


There is 1 in Harrisonburg (don't call us PA), VA just north of the EMU campus. Another one I can think of is on the Herndon Parkway between the Herndon Centennial Golf Course and Reston. There used to be one on Monroe Street (off of Herndon Parkway), but I think they removed it when they changed an intersection to a 4-way stop.

Now it is possible the data collected from those does go to the DEA or whatever federal agency. However, I am not sure a person can always distinguish the difference simply by which road the thing is on.
