If his agent talked with the Islanders, then I am not sure that

would violate the NHL's tampering rules or not. Even if he or his agent have not spoken with the Islanders, he still could have decided to walk instead of being paid $3.6 million for 2 years because he know there will be a lot more openings after the 2018-2019 season. At least I don't think Trotz is hurting for money where he couldn't take 1 year off.
