FWIW, he had an automatic extension

His contract states (stated) that if he won the Cup he would automatically extend for 2 more years with a $300k annual pay bump. So, in effect a 2yr/3.6M deal.

That's peanuts. Top coaches get 5M/yr in the NHL these days, and I'm betting Trotz wants more than 2 years. If I'm his agent I'm starting bids at 6/36 and see if the Islanders bite.

There's also the Todd Reirden problem.
