At the top, we’ll have a complete list of players who are departing the program. Below that will be a list of those players who commit between now and the second Signing Day in February. The overall scholarship count for the 2024 football season will be updated as current players exit the program, and as the Hokies gain commitments from high school players and from the transfer portal.

Virginia Tech Current Scholarship Count For 2024 (Approximate)
These numbers include all eligible returning players who haven’t entered the transfer portal or declared for the NFL Draft, plus all high school recruits (2024 class) and transfers who have committed/signed. These numbers are an estimate, as there are a few cases where we aren’t sure if a player is on scholarship or not, but they are very close to being accurate. The maximum number of scholarships allowed by the NCAA is 85.
Note No. 1: We’re including players who Virginia Tech lists as seniors, but who can still return next season if they decide to use their COVID year, or if they apply for a medical redshirt (in the case of Ali Jennings). Many of those players will likely return to Virginia Tech, like Josh Fuga chose to do. Some will not return, such as Grant Wells. But they are all included until their intentions are known.
Note No. 2: Players who enter the transfer portal could potentially remain at Virginia Tech, but for now we are not counting them towards the scholarship count.
