Don't disagree
But I've always considered any amount the government takes as a tax to be used however the idiots in Washington decide to use it - not a personal savings account.
I believe means testing of some type is inevitable - but it doesn't have to be all or none. I'm far from a a wealth redistribution guy - far from it. But does our government really need to spend money - even operationally - on writing Bill Gates or Warren Buffet monthly checks? Is it correct they get it based on laws now? - absolutely.
I also think we ought to reduce benefits - if didn't save and you are only living on social security then cable bills and cell phone bills with unlimited data shouldn't be your problem. - food and shelter should be.
I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but there ought to be a sliding scale algorithm that takes into account how much you paid in, other retirement income streams, current "wealth", etc. and that includes some type of penalty for those that had the ability to save (paid a lot in, but have no other retirement income streams) but didn't - i.e. they get same amount as someone who contributed less. A retirement tax for not taking advantage of your earlier opportunities.
Only thing - I HATE complicated government regulations - no win.
