You clearly have thought about it
more than I have. I was just pointing out that life expectancy for each person doesn't change JUST because more people live through infancy - more people die at that same age - unless other things affect life expectancy - and it is likely that the things that decrease infant mortality (food, medicine, etc) will also increase life expectancy. In fact if you tell me it is impossible to decrease infant mortality without increasing life expectancy I would likely agree.
It's just that decreased infant mortality ITSELF doesn't affect life expectancy. Many, many studies make claims like this that appear sound, but really aren't true mathematical cause and effect.
