But that's the catch -- what's the cut-off for mental illness?

The cut-off for mental illness, as opposed to "regular" crazy?

In this particular case, sure -- there were several indicators, incidents, behavior, etc.

But I'm guessing most people have dated somebody who they eventually described as "crazy" -- maybe that person stalked them, or damaged their house/car/property, or physically abused them, or mentally abused them, or couldn't get through the day without anxiety/depression meds.

Should all those people lose their gun rights? Who draws the line?

Do you say "Oh no, that person just lost their parent/spouse/child. They'll be depressed for 6-12 months (at least), so no guns for them!"

Then you also have the problem (if you crack-down on the mentally ill, depressed, etc) -- people won't self-report any issues, they won't seek medical help. Why give yourself a Scarlet Letter?
