Something to keep in mind is how the Pac 12 does its scheduling


for all sports except football (even going back to the Pac 10 days). If a team is scheduled to play an away game/series in a state, region (i.e. Bay Area), or city (i.e. LA), then a team will play both teams from said state/region/city before returning home. Heck even the pairings are obvious:

WA schools
OR schools
Cal/Stanford
UCLA/USC
AZ schools
UT/CO *the only pairing that teams may have to fly to their next game/series

The Pac 12/Big XII would use that same scheduling philosophy if the conference expands to 16 or 20 members. Heck even the Big XII already has some "natural" pairings:

TCU/Texas Tech (location) or TCU/Baylor (private school)
Texas/Baylor (location) or Texas/Texas Tech (public school)
OK schools
KS schools
Iowa St/WVU *aka the leftover pairing
