On a more serious note, I think it would be a mistake for USC to go the Independent route. Although it would be interesting to see what conference USC joins for the other sports. If USC decides to go this route, then I do wonder if it could create a trend where other blue bloods opt to go the same route in the future. If there become enough Independent blue bloods, then it could lead to them forming their own division level or association.
