air conditioner, stove with all the crappy utensils you got rid of from your first house years ago... Same with the old furniture...

... that's my image of a "beach house" and they knew they'd get wiped out every 20-30 years. Honestly, remember some of the comments when the building boom began on beachfront property back in the 60s and 70s like "What the heck are they doing"? Things haven't changed that much.
