Because sometimes you actually need to talk on a telephone
And quite frankly, that is one thing cell phones aren't that good at (at least for me).
I've never had a conversation on a cell phone that I would call "good" call quality. There is either a bit of static, a syllable gets dropped here or there, or the cell picks up background noise that a regular phone doesn't.
Also, I don't find them particularly comfortable to hold while having a conversation for more than about 10 minutes. And heaven help you if you need to talk on the phone and use a computer at the same time. If you don't have a headset handy, you may as well hang up and try again when you do.
When you need to make a phone call that goes something like "Hey, where are you? OK, meet me at X in 20 minutes. Bye." Cell phones are great. But for an actual conversation, give me a land line (or Ooma, or skype, or something other than a cell phone).
