For those using cable for internet AND home phone service
We moved, twice, recently, so during that time I just decided I'd use Time Warner's rental cable modem, with the plan being to eventually get my own modem and router (separate or together isn't relevant to this question) and save the $10 a month rental, and probably get a better modem as well.
So now that I'm looking into doing that, here's the issue.
For the current modem, the Coaxial cable comes into the back of the modem as expected. In order for the phones in the house to work, a normal everyday phone cable comes out of this modem and plugs into a nearby phone jack. This connects to all the phone jacks in the house and makes them all run through the modem and out through the Time Warner internet.
And the problem? Time Warner says that, "Sure you can buy your own modem. Here's a list of 30 to 50 models that are approved as compatible with Time Warner"
It's actually a pretty extensive list, lots of different brands, some integrated wireless, others not, various speed levels, etc.
BUT....
NOT ONE of them has a spot for a phone line to come out of the back and go into the wall jack. So if you have phone with Time Warner.....well, you can't buy your own modem.
So does anyone know how to defeat this? Note that the model I'm renting isn't commercially available, as I've already looked into that...but part of the reason I want to buy my own is to not have a UBEE modem, which I had never heard of.
