My old car won't start after I drive it for 45 minutes or so

It has aboot 185k miles. Late last year I noticed an intermittent problem. After driving it for a while and stopping, it won't restart until it sits for a while. I don't know the minimum sit time but it I let it sit for over an hour. My mechanic couldn't duplicate the problem from a cold start so he can't diagnose.

Did it again yesterday.

What say you?
