T. Marshall Hahn off-loaded Radford in his drive to remake VT -

Never really understood the reasoning, but I think state approval of expansion of VT curriculum and degree offerings depended on not being hooked up with Radford. At the time Radford was a part of VT, there were restrictions on allowing women to enroll in VT, except for degrees not offered at Radford. I do not know why BS in education was excluded in the growth of VT as a university, which was the overall goal of Hahn, of course.

I you ever want to read about how Dr. Hahn accomplished so much, read this book:: "From VPI to State University" by Warren H. Strother and Peter Wallenstein. The book, a very good read if you are into VT, thoroughly documents the struggles he had in bringing VPI and Virginia into the 20th century educationally. He had a huge impact on education in Virginia, especially the establishment of the comprehensive community college system.
