There may be local bias in schools that affect kids not choosing Tech-


Tech does not have an undergraduate program in education, so it is not like schools in Virginia are heavily populated with VT grads as teachers. I think that builds in a bias that has to be overcome in recruiting. Also, did the previous regime recruit locally- specifically Bates, starting several years ago?

Here in Tennessee, I think one of the largest colleges in UT is that College of Education. Accordingly, schools in East Tennessee are heavily populated with UT grads and plenty more throughout the state. Those that are not UT grads, tend to root for the Vols. It is part of the culture of Tennessee.
