Fox gets Texas Tier 1 content and ESPN keeps tier 3.

Both get to show games from one of the premier programs in the country, maybe THE premier program. WDBJ7 in Roanoke would offer some money to show Texas games. It's pretty dang simple really. it's pretty much the same set up that's in place now. A different network owns different aspects of Texas' content. Why is this so difficult to understand?

Anyhow, Fox pays Texas for Tier 1 and ESPN pays them for Tier 3, And while ESPN would like to pay them less, ESPN is locked into doing so. Quite irrelevant to what happens with Texas' premier football and basketball games. Though I do not doubt ESPN would like to own those too.

None of this would change if Texas went to the B1G, Pac12, or MWC. ESPN keeps the programming it's already signed on to show and the rest of Texas' inventory would be shopped around for a home. And plenty of entities would pay to show Texas' premier football and basketball games. ESPN does not currently own those and there's no obligation on Texas' part to place them there. Texas has a contractual obligation to show their third tier home games on ESPN. That is it. The rest may go to ESPN, it may not.

I look around and I see Alabama games on CBS, ESPN, and the SECNetwork. Then I see B1G games split across multiple networks too. In fact, they just cut deals with two opposing networks. The entire Big12 is currently on a number of networks, including their own networks. ACC games are on ESPN channels and Raycom. Some ACC games used to be shown on CBSSports net too. There's plenty of precedent for schools and their leagues being shown on multiple networks. It's actually the norm. So again, please don't misinform the board with assertions that Texas is stuck with ESPN for all it's programming. That isn't the case now and there's little reason that will have to be the case in the future.
