I think Texas has 2 options and neither of them are spelled SEC

I have been one of the people here saying that Texas would ultimately become part of the ACC.

Here are my reasons:
- The LHN is an ESPN property with a 20 year contract. Everyone in the TV industry knows that the LHN has been a bad deal for everyone involved except for Texas. I still believe that ultimately ESPN will try to find a way to pull the plug on the network and finding UT a home in the ACC will be one way to do that.

- The SEC does not want Texas. Period. They don't need them and they do not expand their footprint in any way. Texas A&M is loving life without having to share a league with them. They are not going to the SEC.

- The B1G would be a potential home for Texas but their media rights are split between ESPN and Fox and the Big 10 Network is a Fox property. A move to the Big 10 means that the LHN will have to end painfully and that will not be a good thing for the folks in Austin or Bristol. I think the Big 10 is out, thanks to the LHN.

- The Pac 12 shares media rights with Fox, ESPN, and their self-owned Pac 12 network. The Pac 12 network has major distribution problems and cannot get on DirecTV. Also, the Pac 12 is on the west coast. A lot of Pac 12 games take place after a lot of people on the east coast go to sleep for the evening. If you are Texas, your goal is to maximize exposure nationally and not to get on TV sets after more than half of the country has gone to bed.

- They will bring others. This will not be a situation like WVU to the Big 12. I think Texas will bring some friends with them and the ACC will ultimately become a 20-team league. Scheduling will actually become easier in a 20-team league with teams playing 9 league games per year (4 versus your pod, 5 versus another pod) with a game against every league opponent every 3 years via rotating pods. My guess is that 4 schools will come from the Big 12 including Texas and Oklahoma. An 18-team league will feature only Texas and Oklahoma coming into the league...and yes, my numbers include Notre Dame for football.

So there you have it. This is nothing I have not been saying here for a long time. The ACC Network deal only makes this more likely to happen and 2019 sounds like a really good time to expand your conference footprint to maximize carriage deals.
