How soon we forget


It's not so comical or unreasonable. Waiting for the ACC to fracture was perhaps The Big12's best strategy for survival. I posted as much here, not so long ago.
They could not continue in their ten team configuration.
They could not get enough value by adding G5 schools.
There was rampant anxiety in the ACC regarding the mythical ACCN.
Why not wait and see who lost patience among the ACC schools.
Who can say, for sure, that there was no communication taking place under NDA cover?
When the ACCN was announced, and the GoR extended, the Big12 had to look toward Plan B. Plan B was a train wreck. While they were interviewing half of the schools in the Free World, the message boards carried rumors of: adding the Arizona schools; recovering Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri (not A&M); total merger with the PAC 12 or the ACC, or both. Next to those ideas, hoping for breakup of the ACC seems a sane plan, however unlikely.
