Won't hurt over long haul
There may be a little pain the first year or two, but over the long haul it won't hurt them.
It didn't hurt NASCAR in 2001 when they stopped being on ESPN, and it even helped them.
It didn't hurt the NHL when they moved over to OLN/Versus/NBCSportsNet. As a matter of fact, the NHL gets more exposure on NBC than they ever did on ABC.
The English Premier League has had record ratings on the Comcast/NBCU stations since leaving ESPN.
ESPN's problem is that they pissed off so many viewers by shortchanging some sports that when they left for other networks, the fans were relieved that they no longer had to put up with ESPN.
Even now, ESPN will be covering a game like Clemson/Notre Dame, and spend half of the broadcast talking about the SEC, not the game at hand. It's almost as the game they are broadcasting allows them to talk about whatever their favorite subject is, namely the SEC.
