Yeah. In prior seasons it was easy to wash over the narrative leaps in the show by saying "ok, they're just fast forwarding through ____ from the books". But now since there's no longer the unspoken backstory, the leaps leave open real holes in the story.

FWIW, the Knights of the Vale were already on their way. That was Littlefinger's power play over Nestor Royce when he showed up in the Vale a few episodes ago. That was even before Sansa sent the letter asking for help.

And the show is playing fast and loose with travel times. It takes weeks, maybe months to get from the Iron Islands to Mereen. Also, for that matter, the Knights of the Vale can't get from the Vale to Winterfell without either navigating a swamp or dealing with Walder Frey. So just wave your hands at it and enjoy the ride :)
