FSU never came close to leaving. At no point was their leadership on board.

FSU is struggling to hold onto the second academic spot among the state universities. Both UCF and USF are offering $ to the higher caliber caucasian students that can't get $ from UF and they are outbidding FSU for all but the business students. USF for example, is getting almost all of the in-state caucasian pre-meds.

Unless the ACC collapsed, FSU going Big 12 with several glorified JUCOs was never going to happen...ever. Clemson was even further removed. FSU postured with Clemson and got what they wanted...and personally I'm glad they did.
