ECU & ODU are on the schedule until 2025. That leaves 2 OOC games. With only 8 conference games, if VT has any pretense at the playoffs, it has to schedule two Power 5 schools - or someone comparable - to fill the other 2 slots (they don't necessarily both have to be powerhouses). Since the Big10 is in the same boat and willing to schedule home and homes more readily than the SEC, we're seeing a bunch of ACC-Big10 pairings going forward.

There is no room for FCS schools until 2026. And by then, things will look totally different than they are now. My guess is unless there is a late cancellation and VT has no other available option, we've seen the last of FCS schools on the VT schedule.

It's really not that complicated. Think horses, not zebras.
