I wasn't assuming that Roanoke wouldn't stop being the

major passenger airport for the region. I was just thinking of the potential benefits to VT athletics if the runway was long enough to handle just about all passenger aircraft. Instead of teams having to fly into and out of either Richmond, Roanoke, or even Greensboro and then bus to/from Blacksburg, they could fly to the campus. If that were possible, then it could open up the doors to where VT may have an easier time scheduling OOC games/home-home series with any school in the US. Plus, if VT wanted to sponsor an exhibition game to promote one of the sports programs (i.e. men's soccer vs. European club's senior team or U-18 team), then it might make things logistically easier and cheaper for VT.
