this creates a real problem for the federal government true until today

IF (and note the word IF), the southern states were not states, then WVU can exist, but the Federal government forced the southern states to ratify the freeing of slaves ammendment before becomming full states again.

the Supreme Court has avoided this decision for 150 years. Either West Virginia is illegal, or not enough states ratified the ammendment to free the slaves in the south. thus the slaves are either slaves, or the federal government owes a lot of southern people a lot of money for their financial losses.

That is why the Supreme court has avoided the issue. They can only win if they send WVa to the dogs.

West Virginia Attempted to merge with Virginia about 30 years ago. Virginia was NOT interested. that may be the supreme court's out.

West Virginia is the ONLY state with less people in it than it had in 1950. It has more toothless people than any state in the union (note this is not a percentage), and more homes (again gross, not percentage) without indoor plumbing than any other state in the union..

I wonder is West Virginia would be better off to succeed and get foreign aid. they'd be ahead of Botswana.

Also note cool note, West Virginia actually accepted Russia foreign aide during the cold war to repair a bridge near Huntington.
