FWIW a FBS-transition school can sometimes receive a waiver to become

bowl eligible a year early. Historically speaking, I believe the only times a school has received that waiver is when the transition school meets certain requirements (i.e. provide more football scholarships than what is required after the first transition year, the conference doesn't have enough bowl eligible teams, FBS doesn't have enough bowl eligible teams, etc.). So it will be interesting to see if JMU receives the waiver from the NCAA and when JMU receives it.
