This has become a huge issue as I get close to retirement

Been at my company a long time, done many things as part of it, and it is rare that something comes up that is totally new to me and makes me excited. Instead, I've already, many times, been part of selling a business, buying a business, building new locations, closing locations, stock splits, safety campaigns, benefit changes, government relations, media interviews, etc.

So when newbies show up and without ever asking, "have we done this before, what did we do, is there anything we can do better" instead launch into an explanation of *their idea* on how to do something, and the idea is virtually devoid of any real world experience or insights that come from having done it, I have to take a deep breath, sigh and figure out how to make it better without insulting the newbies or being viewed as "that guy" who brings up "the way we used to do it."

It's increasingly frustrating.
