Most folks on here dont care about AAU, but its interesting that a 'midwestern land grant decided to punt on the AAU, (just like Nebraska). We know VT has been pursuing AAU membership but has had a tough time getting an invite. He's been saying, that VT R&D portfolio (while very significant) might now match with AAU. (other wards, its not to be all and end all).

AAU schools are highly regarded R&D institutions, and there membership is only granted by the AAU by INVITATION only. You an be a great robust institution and be a successful diverse institute without being in the AAU club.
