The answer to that question will depend on how the 3 groups

are defined for Title IX compliance. For example, both the intercollegiate group and club group require a national organization to oversee and regulate the sport. Likewise, it appears that both the intercollegiate and club groups can offer athletic scholarships to its student-athletes based on the PDF file I have shared in a couple of posts on here.

"Some institutions have donors who fund athletic scholarships for participants in specific sport clubs (athletic scholarships based on athletic skill, rather than academic scholarships or need-based scholarships). Donated dollars are viewed under Title IX as dollars provided by the institution. Bottom line - if athletic grant dollars for female and male club sport athletes are not proportionate to women’s and men’s rates of club sports participation within one percentage point, then a violation is likely."

Based on the 2 criteria above, if a group of school decides to create a sport specific league, then they could also decide that the Athletic Department will no longer pay for the athletic scholarships going forward. Instead, the school could decide to transfer the cost to the fan base and/or sponsors. If that happens, then football could end up being re-classified from the intercollegiate group to club group. It may even be possible that the fan base and/or sponsors could end up paying for the players' salaries assuming the new league opts to become either a semi-pro league or even a pro league. If the new league goes that route, then I don't expect the salaries to be a large amount (i.e. $50K or under).
