Recruiting 101...
You always know who will be the decision-maker in the process and you always know what will be the deciding factor(s)
So one of a few things have to be true if you take what youre saying to be true...
1) Tony Bennett has no clue who the real decision-maker is or he doesnt know the criteria (such as a NIL deal) that will be the deciding factor
2) Tony Bennett knew who the decision-maker is and he knows NIL was a factor, and he presented his own NIL deal, but it wasnt enough to match
3) your insider is full of it
I have a tendency to believe that neither 1 or 2 are true, as TB is an experienced recruiter who knows the basics. You always know who is on the take and who isnt and its never a surprise. So if the kid was into illegal benefits (and yes, promising NIL in the recruting process is an illegal benefit) TB would be very aware of that fact. He could either choose to not be a part of the recruitment anymore OR he could put skin in the game. He also doesnt strike me as the type to offer illegal benefits, so I lean away from #2 being true.
That leaves only #3...
An "insider" who wants to explain why someone they felt good about is no longer an option. So they fabricate the soup of the day, that the kid took a NIL deal (despite showing no signs of doing so for the entirety of his recruiting process)
The only option that makes sense is your insider isnt that inside.
I also dont buy the line that TB wasnt recruiting anyone else. London Johnson is a 2023 kid. Most 2023 kids arent being recruited at all right now, so its very easy to say "he wasnt recruiting anyone else" when of course he wasnt...very few are and wont be until June/July.
Sorry you guys lost out on the kid. But it happens. And it wasnt due to nefarious NIL deals unless you choose to believe TB also played ball until his offer was beaten...
