I think in softball the ACC “approves” baseball/softball umps but they


aren’t technically working FOR the ACC, if you see the difference. I’m pretty sure it’s only in football where the officials actually work FOR a conference. Even then, they are allowed to be “rented” by other, lower conferences to work games if the big conference doesn’t need them on a given weekend.

So these umps we see in Tallahassee probably live within a few hours of the area. I doubt we would ever see any of them in Blacksburg, Raleigh/Durham, etc.
