Given the G League's relationship to the NBA, I believe a certain number

of roster spots are reserved for players under contract with the NBA parent club. So roster spots may be limited for any player not under contract with a NBA team.

Overseas is a possibility for him. However, I believe several overseas pro leagues limit the number of foreign players that can be on a club's roster. Depending on the pandemic situation in a country, I believe some still are preventing people from coming into the country or limiting who can come into the country. Given the situation in Ukraine, I believe countries like Russia has closed its borders to people entering or leaving the country. The only reason I mention Russia is because I think it is a somewhat popular pro league for North American players, particularly women during the WNBA offseason. Even if he is able to enter a country there is no guarantee he will be able to return to the US once the season is over. Some pro athletes may be more cautious about wanting to accept that risk because they don't want to find themselves stuck in a foreign country.

If he remains in college, then he could end up on a team where he is one of the star players. If he has a great season and his team does well, then he could be thinking it might boost his draft stock. I'm not sure how much he really cares about NIL contracts.
