Well Cincinnati is a good example.


I mean, does anyone think Luke Fickell is a bad coach? Does anyone think he doesn't focus on making personal connections and building relationships in recruiting? And yet after 4 years of non stop winning, they still run up against their recruiting ceiling. Our ceiling may be higher, but FUs three consecutive recruiting classes in the 20s (2017-2019) is about as good as we've ever done. FU is the worst coach of all time at 'personal connections and building relationships' and yet he still had three consecutive years in the 20s in recruiting rankings. So was it FU? Was it the relationships? Or did we fall off our ceiling because we stopped winning?

These are happy times in VT land...but they are also deluded times. Pry is going to have to win through development, because he's not going to win many head to head recruiting battles with top winning programs even if he is the 'personal connections and building relationships guru'.
