The incentive would be to try to get a turn


Which is the whole point of mat wrestling. No one would choose bottom, but lots of guys would choose top without the fear of losing on an escape point. The motivation to get out would be because being on bottom sucks, and it's easier to score points from neutral. More guys would likely go for reversals too. With escape points how they are now, reversals end up with the same point differential as just an escape if they aren't followed up with a rideout.
