Tesla faces very real competition from Chinese EV-producers.
Tesla is ramping production aggressively, chip availability appears to be a limiting factor.
The US/European manufacturers are not even close to Tesla today in terms of fit/appeal. They also have massive, massive legacy challenges. It takes far fewer humans to make EVs and the US/European manufacturers have WAY too many employees, difficult unions, legacy dealer networks that add huge costs, etc. It will be difficult for them to catch up to Tesla, but the competition will be good for buyers.
It's Tesla versus the top 3 Chinese manufacturers. I don't think Musk is worried about GM or VW much at all.
