I've had the exact opposite experience in Montgomery County VA...

The teachers and administrators here have been fantastic. Frankly, I'm surprised how much time and effort they spend keeping parents informed of everything. When I was a kid, parents put the kid on the bus every morning, then they got a report card every 10 weeks, and that was it.
