Unfortunately, my experience is what @RoswellGAHokie describes

The schools here (not VA) do not want you to know what is going on. They want to "assist" your child in growing and developing and don't want you to have any input. Cause, you know, someone who spends a few hours a day, at most, with your child and has no responsibility for them later in life, or even next year, is much better equipped!
