If Tech doesn't achieve AAU status by the end of the GOR....
the SEC may be Tech's new home, not the Big Ten. Assuming that there are two super conferences. Tech could join a lower tier conference. How that would affect Tech's future enrollments and national visibility is an unknown, but not being in a super conference will give Tech less national exposure. There likely won't be a conference network and Tech football and basketball will be more like the American Athletic Conference, not the ACC. That's why achieving AAU status will determine where Tech lands in the next major conference realignment. Besides Tech, other Power 5 schools trying to achieve AAU status are Arizona State, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, Nebraska, NC State and Oklahoma. Of that group, ASU, Georgia, NC State and Tech 'appear' to be the closest to AAU status.
