...your description of your boss threatening seems to confirm a "I'm a badass" mindset (maybe macho was the wrong word) "I'm going to sue you outta your socks" is a little different than reminding you that you signed or was implied a no-compete clause.

But yeah, never heard that word usage before in any context.
