I used to be fully against universal DH


I changed my mind a few years ago. Mostly because my favorite team (the 2021 WS champions 😊) is in the NL. Having a DH in the AL creates a disadvantage for the NL because, as players age, they will move from the NL to AL solely for the DH (see Brian McCann, Evan Gattis).

As far as competitive balance, the team with the 11th highest payroll in 2021 won the World Series. Here are the payroll rankings for teams in the 2021 playoffs: 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 15, 19, 26. Overall, I get your point (and actually agree), but 40% of the teams are outside the top 10, including the team that won it all.
