I don’t think Alleyne, as a rising senior,
who has essentially held the position for 3 years going on 4 years, should have any worry as to being bumped for Maddox. Alleyne’s skillset, as I see it, is purely jump shooter, and a jump shooter should do very well in Mike Young system. I do agree that Maddox would bring more in terms of driving capability, as well as being less streaky in his shooting. And, also is a longer defender, although Alleyne is capable as a defender.
I just don’t think Young would bump Alleyne.
The real question I see is whether Maddox will have the confidence his minutes will pick up enough to stay, with Alleyne and Cattoor returning. It would be relatively simple IMO for Young to split 80 minutes between all 3 players, but it appears that Young may be locked more into his starting 5.
Then, there is Rodney Rice coming in. A highly rated player who’s HS coach happens to also be the head assistant now at VT. I suspect he will be used at the 1, but may also cut into the 2 and 3 minutes. So that has to be considered as well. And then, there is what Pedulla might do. He still has a “free” transfer to use, like Maddox.
These are all opinions though. We’ll have to see how it plays out.
