ND always made it abundantly clear

It made it clear to the Big East when it partially joined in 1995.

It made it clear to the Big Ten in 1999 by rejecting its offer to join as a full member.

It made it clear when it partially joined the ACC in 2012.

See a pattern?

Football would not be included in the deal.

One of the main motivations for ND to join either the Big East or the ACC was that they didn't require football to join.

It is amazing to me that you would think that ND would harm its own football interests and how it wants to run its program so that the ACC could "count on it".

Why isn't the ACC backing ND's attempts to stay indy by having more at large bids?

Cannot the Irish "count on" the ACC to back them?

Why not? Is that not wrong of ND's "conference brethren"?

The interests of ND football (stay indy as long as possible) and the ACC (push ND into surrendering football independence and joining the ACC) were never aligned and in fact are structurally in opposition to each other (and always have been).
