I don't know about the whole ACC but VT students (athlete or not) were


required to be vaccinated which is why I said most of our players wouldn't have been tested unless showing symptoms. As far as being vaccinated and still being able to catch and spread COVID I'm not sure why you're surprised at that. The vaccines were very good at preventing infection from the initial COVID strain (the one they were developed for). The delta strain showed ability to still infect vaccinated people but was still very effective in preventing hospitalization and death. I don't know that we know how the vaccines do against omicron yet but it appears to be more contagious than delta so it would make sense that it would be able to spread easier even among vaccinated people. It definitely seems like the new variant is driving this spike as personally I know more people who have tested positive in the last week or so than I've known the entire pandemic. In short, the vaccines seem to be doing a good job of keeping people out of the hospitals but that doesn't mean outbreaks won't happen especially as the virus evolves.
