THOSE THAT DON’T LEARN FROM THE PAST ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT!
I see some are trying to cut you off from discussing this, don’t let them do it.
It’s fascinating to read the QB whisperer article below and hear the high praise he received from those QB’s he coached. Thanks Blue that was a good refresher. What’s amazing is too many of Virginia Tech’s former QB’s have, let’s face it, been trashing us. I think most if not all the stories link back to Corny. He was a huge mistake, like quite frankly so many OC’s at Virginia Tech have been. The don’t lose the game mentality has owned us for decades. Can we ever shake that Jerry Claiborne mentality? Can we coach what to do more than what not to do? That’s why watching our new QB coach on YouTube telling a kid, don’t let mistakes own your mind. Make em, learn from em, but focus on what to do instead of what not to do. That’s an entirely different way of thinking from our past. (By the way watching Charles Huff talk about this took him to number 1 for me, but I didn’t know Pry, but he preaches the same and I love it)
Now let’s look at IMHO Fuente’s biggest mistakes and learn from them. First he hired the wrong OC and QB coach with the wrong philosophy and let him stay. Coach Pry, if you got the wrong guy, it needs to be bye bye!
Second, accountability, especially in strength, conditioning, flexibility and speed training. There has to be a system of accountability. Literally you do it and you prove you did it or bye bye. You can’t let the other team members see you let people get away with not doing it. You won’t always get what you expect, but you will almost always, if not always, get what you accept. Yep it’s that simple.
Third, if you are extraordinary at something like the QB Whisperer article said about Fuente, you either do it, or you teach someone else to do it. Pry said this in his opening Press Conference, I am going to do it until I have someone who I’ve taught to do it as well as I do it. I don’t think this comment was by chance, I think Whit saw Fuente do this and he doesn’t want the program to make the same mistake and be doomed to repeat the same type of results.
Just my three sense (play on the phrase), Happy Holidays Hokies!!! 🦃🦃🦃
