He did develop QBs. However, he got away from why he was once a hot name...
...when he decided to make himself less involved in the offense. It's well known that QBs in his offensive system were very successful and put a couple into the NFL.
He did a great job at TCU as QB coach, then put in a lot of work getting his offense right at Memphis. Plus, I think not enough was has been said about his OC at Memphis, Darrell Dickey, who is Jimbo Fisher’s OC at Texas A&M. He may have masked some of the reasons for Memphis’ success as well.
Even Jerod Evans said the offense at VT was not as complex and simplified version of the tape he saw at Memphis. Then you have Cornelsen running the show while Fuente was less involved. Just exposed a lot when he should've did what he did best all along.
Just tough all around because he is good at what he does as QB coach/OC. Don't think he was good at managing the overall team. Over time, it was Cornelsen who didn't develop the QBs as Fuente was more involved in other parts of the team.
